Frequently asked questions and Fees
What Is The Cost of Not Seeking Help?
Mental health care can feel expensive, however, it is not nearly as expensive as the impact of not receiving the support that you need. Mental health issues NOT addressed can impact every area of your daily life, from your career, your relationships, and even your physical health. Just like not going to the doctor when you are not feeling well, receiving mental health therapy is equally important for your daily wellness.
Investing in your mental health is an important investment that can pay a variety of dividends. Healthier relationships, emotional stability, and reduced stress and anxiety can allow you to have a better understanding of yourself and a more fulfilling life. And these are just a few of the benefits that therapy can provide.
What Makes Me Different From Other Therapists?
Certainly there are many therapists in the Greater Sacramento area that are amazing and outstanding in their respective fields and I want to validate that. I also know that I have very specific and specialized training and experience that many do not. I am the only known Attachment Focused- EMDR therapist in the Greater Metropolitan Sacramento area that went through the world-renowned Parnell Institute training that developed AF-EMDR! I also have had specialized training with older adults which was the focus of my academic career getting a Certificate in Gerontological Studies.
I have extraordinary experience with one of the most traumatized populations…our Veterans. I worked at the VA hospital both in Reno, Nevada and Sacramento, California for almost six years and did my Master’s internship at the Miami, Florida VA hospital. Our nations Veterans have been a priority for me as I grew up part of my childhood in the Army and most of my family members were Veterans. This experience provided me the wealth of information working with our youngest of generations to some of the oldest and all the challenges they faced.
I identify and live my life with my husband as an openly gay man. It is by no means WHO I am rather a facet of me, it has, however, provided me a unique perspective to the world as I was previously, at a much younger age, married to a woman and have three children and now five grandchildren. I have been very active in community work and have been privileged with supporting the LGBTQ+ community in every imaginable scenario. I’m certain you would agree, I have a very unique perspective on the world.
How Long Is A Therapy Appointment and How Often Do I Go To Therapy?
Therapy appointments are usually 50-55 minutes in length, however, depending on the treatment option it can be extended. Therapy is most effective when you meet with a therapist consistently, so I offer weekly or biweekly appointments. As you make progress toward your goals, we can reduce the frequency of sessions to support and maintain your work.
How Many Sessions Do I Need?
This is a very individual question. It really depends on what your personal goals are, the progress we make together in sessions and what you want to address. During our time together, we will work collaboratively to establish and identify your values and goals and this will help guide us on your journey to healing.
How Much Does Therapy Cost?
Let’s begin by asking ourselves, how much is our health worth? What has NOT getting help cost you already? Because, as we know, Mental Health and Physical Health are undeniably linked together, one affects the other.
My private pay fee is $200 per 55 minute session. I quickly want to address this. I want to know that what you receive is me having 12 years of experience as a mental health therapist with a very robust arsenal of treatment modes (see Services tab)
I provide a safe space in my unique office and create an atmosphere that all my clients, past and present, prefer to come into and share with me that the atmosphere is what helps them to feel they can open up in a secure and safe space. There is so much more to a therapist than just their training and experience. I find that being a therapist is a calling and all my clients benefit from my kalidescope of treatment training and knowledge, skills, and abilities but most of all my personality and meeting everyone where they are on their journey.
As far as the $200 amount? I am able to provide a “SuperBill” for you to submit to your healthcare insurance provider if they reimburse for out-of-network providers. Please contact them to see what your reimbursement rate would be.
I accept Venmo, Cash, or Check for payment.
I Have Health Insurance, Will My Insurance Cover For My Therapy Sessions?
I am currently accepting Kaiser Permanente Insurance and private pay only. However, if you have insurance, I am able to provide a “SuperBill” for you to submit to your healthcare insurance provider if they reimburse for out-of-network providers. Please contact them to see what your reimbursement rate would be.
